“In all your ways acknowledge Him…”

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

It says in Proverbs, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”.  In that spirit, I present my opening thread for the Young Cosmos weblog with a link to the sermon I heard this Sunday morning by Jack Lash, my pastor and pastor of Gainesville Presbyterian Church (PCA).

[The reader is invited o right click the link below and then do a "Save Target As" and then listen to the sermon from the saved file.  You may have to turn your volume up to hear it.]

Sermon on Acts  Chapter 2:14-21 by Jack Lash

If the cosmos is indeed young, then the literal genealogy of Jesus Christ will be affirmed and all the universe will then be shown to point to His advent.  Every molecule, every law of physics will affirm the genealogy of Luke 3:23-37 in a powerful way.

Though I could still accept the genealogy of Luke 3:23-37 even if the cosmos were old, if physical evidence points to a young cosmos, then the most daring interpretation of Luke 3:23-37 will be vindicated, and Christianity’s sacred scriptures will affirmed beyond question.  It will show the Intelligent Designer of the Universe has truly spoken to us “in these last days through His Son”.

I cannot imagine a grander discovery for science than to discover a young cosmos.  This raises the question then of the problem of suffering and evil in the world.  I would respond by saying that a master playwright’s greatest drama will have suffering and tragedy in the beginning of the drama as part of the glorious ending he had in mind.  Why should we be surprised the greatest Playwright of all would write the Divine Drama in a manner otherwise?

The sermon by my pastor is 42 minutes long, and I recognize not all will be able to listen to it.  But for those that do, I hope you are as blessed as I was this morning.
